WSU lost the football game, in Seattle, to UW, 27-9. WSU coached byBert Clark. UW coached by Jim Owens. Before 1962, the teams played forthe "Governor's Trophy." The game was renamed the "Apple Cup" in 1962 because of Washington's famous apple crop. The Apple Cup trophy hasbeen awarded to the winning team ever since.
