READ ABOUT THE 1966 WSU FOOTBALL GAME IN EUGENE

On 11/24/2020, WSU grad Pat Caraher told News for CougGroup he was one of the Eugene Register-Guard reporters assigned to cover the game. Caraher said, "Fourth quarter, Ducks trailing 14-13, but on a sustained drive deep in Cougar territory. QB Mike Barnes at the helm. Time running out. Ball is on about the 25. -- between the hash marks for what appears to be perfect placement for game-winning FG "chip shot" Barnes intentionally grounds ball to stop the clock with about 10 seconds, thinking it was third down. He lost track of downs. It was fourth down. Cougars survive. It’s a game the Ducks will never forget -- or the Cougars."
